Hey everybody! We have a new competitive season coming up and we're doing another fundraiser to help offset the costs. This one is a really good one! We're selling Sonic coupon cards.

This is what's on the coupon card:

(2) tickets for a $.99 Route 44 Soft Drink
(1) ticket for a $1.99 Wacky Pack meal
(1) ticket for a $.99 Regular Iced Latte
(1) ticket for BOGO Chili Cheese Coney
(1) ticket for BOGO Single Topping Sundae

Katie is MOVIN' ON UP!

Tryouts for team placements were last Thursday, and we're proud to announce that Katie will be competing on the LEVEL 4 team this year! Everyone was so excited, and we're all confident that she'll do great during the upcoming competition season!

WHAT THE FLOCK IS GOING ON?

Did you wake up this morning to find a flock of beautiful flamingoes in your front yard? Are you wondering what in the heck they're doing? Well, hopefully the paperwork that was with our lead bird gave you a big hint!

Yes, CONGRATULATIONS!
You've been flocked!

Flocking is easy and fun. We go late at night and plant my girls in someone's yard. We started by flocking friends that we thought would appreciate the idea. In order for the birds to be removed from their yards, they needed to pay us off (a tax deductible donation, of course) and give us the name of the next flocking victim, and so on. It actually took me a couple of days to get the guts to go plant my birds in my neighbor's yard. I mean, you never know how someone will react! However, we had no need to worry! Overall, most people are really loving the whole idea and we've never had more fun fundraising!

If you know of someone in the Searcy area that you would like to have flocked, please post a comment and let me know! The cost is $15 (or more!), and we will get your flocking taken care of right away! We are trying to raise all of the money needed to cover Katie's competition fees for the year. Anything you can do to help would be greatly appreciated!

Happy flocking!

Katie's 4th Level 3 Gym Meet

Katie's last Level 3 Meet for the season was a full one! There were 21 girls competing on her level!!! It was a lot of fun, and we were very proud of her. She scored 2nd place on vault, despite some pretty stiff competition! I'm not sure why she scored 15th on her floor exercise. I am so inexperienced, so maybe some of you gymnastics buffs out there can leave me a comment and let me know what went wrong.

Thanks so much for looking!

Katie's 3rd Level 3 Gym Meet

Katie's third meet was a lot of fun, too. We left school at noon and headed home for a bite of lunch and to fix Katie's hair. After that, we were off to North Little Rock. Katie did an amazing job at her meet, and the scores showed it! She scored 1st on beam and bars, 2nd on floor, 3rd on vault and 1st all around. We were so proud of her!

Tuesday

Katie's 2nd Level 3 Gym Meet

Katie had a rough time at the Batesville meet. You see, Katie has ADHD. ADHD is Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. This disorder is characterized by a persistent pattern of inapproriate behaviors. The of the most common manifestations of the disorder are as follows:

Impulsiveness: acting before thinking of consequences, jumping from one activity to another, disorganization, tendency to interrupt other peoples' conversations.

Hyperactivity: restlessness, often characterized by an inability to sit still, fidgeting, squirminess, climbing on things, restless sleep.

Inattention: easily distracted, day-dreaming, not finishing work, difficulty listening, inablility to focus on the task at hand.

When not medicated, Katie struggles with all of the symptoms above. We decided, as a test, to see how she would do at a gym meet without her medication. After seeing her first gym meet, I thought maybe the medication was making her more cautious than she would typically be on the bars and the beam. While that may be true, her inablility to focus definitely hurt her performance at the Batesville meet.

Thursday

Katie's 1st Level 3 Gym Meet

Katie's first gym meet was an exciting time for all of us. We took her out of school at noon and headed to Hot Springs, AR. I must have spent an hour just fixing her hair! She did a great job at the meet and we were all very proud of her.

Katie's Progression

This clip is a collection of Katie's progression through team gymnastics. The first half of the video shows Katie's performance at her very first team recital, which was in May 2008. She had practiced with the team for about two weeks, then decided she wanted to do the recital with them. It was really something to see!

The second half of the clip shows Katie at her first gym meet, which was in December 2008. Her progress was amazing.

Hope you enjoy the clip!

I NEED YOUR HELP!!!

My name is Katie. I am an 8 year-old Level 3 gymnast at Gym Stars Gymnastics in Searcy. I am writing to you with the hope that you will consider a donation to help me with the costs associated with my participation in the gymnastics program this upcoming season.

Gymnastics is a great sport for athletes of all ages – it can help develop coordination, strength, balance, flexibility and so much more. Most importantly, it’s a lot of fun! As a member of the gymnastics team, I will learn valuable lessons that will continue to help me grow into a vital member of our community. Teamwork, leadership and commitment are three things that are stressed in our program. Being a gymnast requires not only a high level of physical activity, (I practice at least 8 hours per week), but also the commitment and support of my family, friends and community.

I would like to ask for your contribution to assist me with the cost of gymnastics camp, meet fees, traveling expenses and uniforms. The Gym Stars Gymnastics Team welcomes business and individual contributions in any amount. There are two ways to contribute to our fund. The first way is with a 100% tax deductible donation. Our Non Profit Tax ID will be printed on your receipt, which will be mailed immediately after your donation is processed.

If you would rather offer sponsorship through our advertising program, your sponsorship would not be tax deductible, but would be recognized in the following ways:

$300 Sponsorship
• Business name included on our sponsor banner that will hang in the gym.
• Business name included in our Parent Handbook received by all students when they enroll in classes. (Our current enrollment is around 350 students)
• Business name listed on the “Calendar” page of our website.
http://www.searcygymstars.com This is where anyone can access the gym activities, closings, etc. All sponsors will be at the top of the page! We will list your business name and we can even include a link to your website!
• Business name printed on the back of our competitive team t-shirts which will be worn at all competitions and meets.

Silver Sponsorship ($500+)
This includes everything above, AND silver sponsors will be listed on a plaque that will hang in our parents’ room.

I hope you will be a part of our continued success in this amazing sport. Thank you in advance for your contribution.
Sincerely,

Katie
